AVATAR

Avatar is, of course, a sumptuous movie with the examination of a lyrical setting interspersed with action sequences in which everything can be seen (unlike, say, any film directed by Michael Bay)

It also has to be admitted that James Cameron is phenomenally well read in the genre. He must be, because if there was a single original concept, image or line of dialogue then I missed it. Yes, the visuals were enough to keep me in my seat but, honestly, I'm bored now with the 'that's taken from there' game.

In the sequel do you think they will have a little white dragon for their first born son?

Here via Jay Lake

I was able to play another game - identify that reef aquarium creature. "Oh... majano pest anemones... tube worms, I think that's briarium..." it added some variety to the genre version.

Sequel: Or maybe they'll have a daughter who will bond with nine tiny banshees.

Oh yes, there was enough (and more) to keep everyone occupied. I know there are murmurs about a sequel, but I hope Cameron can say no.

How about twins?

The last I heard, was that this was the first of a trilogy. I wonder who's going to lose a finger to the fires of Mordor in the last one.

The blue things he thumps on when they're walking through the forest the first time he meets Neytiri, in the dark.

Oh, that is so true. When I walked out, I thought the worldbuilding visuals were awesome, but the plot was a rehash of "Dances with Wolves." IMO all the creative energy went into worldbuilding and they slaped a plot on top of it to justify the millions they spent.
